The Mantis moving coil phono cartridges are manufactured
entirely by A J Hanekom in his own workshops. Specialised
aircraft grade aluminium or carefully selected kiln-dried
hardwoods are used to shape cartridge bodies, using
a milling machine.
Cartridge bodies are milled "monococque" style
for absolute constructional integrity and elimination
of resonance. Each cartridge body - aluminium or hardwood
- is purposely milled in two parts and permanently bonded
together after anodising. This method results in excellent
isolation between the mounting plate and cartridge body. |

The internal components
are fitted into a specialized polymer component carrier,
carefully chosen for it’s low-resonance properties
and is turned, drilled and milled in one piece. This
complex component is pressure-locked into the cartridge
body by no fewer than 3 non-magnetic stainless steel
screws to further avoid stray eddy currents and resonance.
The Mantis cartridges also feature a unique, patented
suspension and damping system, unlike any other moving
coil cartridge.

This suspension system
allows for precise, repeatable adjustment of trackability
and optimal setting of frequency response. The compact,
lightweight monococque body has a massive mounting plate
for maximum stability, featuring standard ½”-spaced
threaded holes, taking standard, non-magnetic, 2.5mm
stainless steel capscrews. Seven years of intense development
and innovation have gone into the Blue Angel Mantis
phono cartridge. It will reward you with a completely
natural and uncoloured sound - whatever your musical
